1. Books and Beans—Aberdeen, Scotland

Books and Beans is exactly the cozy, charming type of shop you would imagine exists in Scotland. It's essentially a few narrow, winding stories crammed full of secondhand books! Things may have changed at this best-kept-secret since I walked those creaky staircases a few years ago, but it’s still open and thriving. If you find yourself in Aberdeen, be sure to grab a used copy of Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson and a piping hot cup of coffee to keep you warm while browsing.

2. Volumes Bookcafe—Chicago, Illinois

Wicker Park is the hipster paradise of Chicago and Volumes fits right in! Their Wicker Park location has recently closed while the owners try to find a permanent home in the neighborhood. However, the Michigan Ave. location is still alive and well!
This store has a great selection and the owners are extremely helpful and nice!

3. Your Mind—Seoul, South Korea

This spot has a lot of open space and great windows to illuminate the books as you read through them. Your Mind has foreign and Korean books for sale. Also, there's a store cat, which is a huge bonus!

4. Bookpeople—Austin, Texas

The coffee shop, the prices, and the selection is top shelf at this enormous independent bookstore in Austin!
Author signed copies abound and there's plenty of seating at the cafe and throughout the store.
They have a policy that requires guests check their bags at the door, but anything to protect the books!
